Sanskrit institute set to join IIT club

The Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, a deemed university that promotes Sanskrit, is likely to be upgraded into an "institution of national importance" like the Indian Institutes of Technology and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, government sources said.

This will allow the Delhi-headquartered Sansthan greater freedom to decide academic matters and expand by opening new campuses and research centres and affiliating more schools and colleges. It already has 11 campuses - 10 outside Delhi - where it teaches Sanskrit courses from undergraduate to DLitt level and researches the Sanskrit language, literature and scriptures. It also runs over 100 Sanskrit-medium pathsalas, mostly in north India, whose pupils take the Sansthan's own school-leaving exam and largely end up as Sanskrit teachers or researchers. .

‪Karnataka‬ all set to house its own ‪‎IITcampus‬ the news follows‪ protests‬ in the state!

‪#‎FinanceMinister‬ ‪#‎ArunJaitley‬ sanctioned an all new ‪#‎IIT‬ campus for Karnataka in March this year. The state government thus began to identify a suitable land for setting up the premier institute. Three towns including‪#‎Dharward‬ were inspected by a team of experts. Dharwad was finally chosen for the establishment as it had comparatively better infrastructure and overall facilities.
The excitement of the upcoming campus in the town however turned into protests when the locals learnt that ‪#‎ChiefMinister‬‪#‎Siddharamaiah‬ had suggested that ‪#‎Raichur‬ in ‪#‎NorthKarnataka‬ is a better place to set up the IIT campus. It is being said that some Congress leaders from Raichur pressurized the CM for IIT relocation.
Protests are being held by the opposition party ‪#‎BJP‬ as well as other Dharwad groups since the last few days. A bandh has been planned in Dharwad for today following this havoc.

Major Change in the IIT-NIT Admission Criteria likely from 2016!

Sources reveal that moving forward the admission to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) across the country would purely be based on the JEE-Main score. The board examination marks will not hold any weightage.

A panel appointed by the government has suggested the change which is likely to be implemented from the next session that is from 2016. Final decision on this is expected early next month after the HRD minister Smriti Irani holds a discussion on the matter with the NIT council. "We would be recommending scrapping of weightages given to board marks," shared Devang Khakhar, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and a member of the panel.

Currently, 60% weightage is given to the JEE Main score and 40% weightage is given to the marks secured in the board examination. The panel has recommended the changes due to a blunder made by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

It so happened that the CBSE did not publish the JEE Main ranking list for counselling on time. It put the entire blame on the state boards stating that there was a delay from their end in submitting the Class 12 marks. This led to a major havoc in the IIT admissions. The admissions to the institute had to be postponed and this caused a lot of stress and anxiety among the students. The UPA government was later held responsible for this change as it failed to attain the expected result.

The panel is said to recommend securing a minimum of 60 percent marks or 70 percentile (whichever is lower) in 12th standard to be eligible to sit for the entrance examination.
