One of the most common choices after MBBS, this course allows you to specialize in a particular field such as paediatric, gynaecology, general surgery to name a few. While MD/ MS degree courses are for 3 years, the diploma course can be completed in just 2 years. You are required to clear the AIPGMEE exam in order to seek admission in this PG course.
DNB (Diploma of National Board):
This is another course to pursue for all those of you aiming to attain a specialist degree. The course recognized by MCI is offered by the National Board of Examinations. However, the pass rates in this course are said to be quite low. This course is not preferred by many also because it is mostly offered by private hospitals that do not provide the required exposure and many hospitals prefer MD/ MS candidates over DNB candidates.
MHA (Masters in Health Administration):
This 3 year post-graduate degree in Health Administration hones the management skills of MBBS graduates so that along with treating their patients they also become efficient enough to manage their clinics and hospitals.
Doctors with MBA degree are quite in demand these days. You are required to sit for CAT in order to seek admission in a good MBA institute.
One also has the option to join civil services after completing MBBS. Many MBBS graduates go on to become IAS, IRS, IFS and IPS officers.
CMS (Combined Medical Services):
This examination is conducted to offer opportunities in government institutions such as Municipal Corporations and Railways as Medical Officers. The exam conducted by UPSC can be given by final year students and interns.
MMST (Masters in Medical Science and Technology):
Another course that MBBS graduates can go for is the Masters in Medical Science and Technology. It is offered by quite a few institutes including IITs that offer medical biotechnology, bioinformatics, healthcare imaging, etc.
M.Tech in Biomedical Engineering and Biological Sciences:
Yet another course being offered at the IITs especially for the MBBS graduates. This has especially been designed for the students who aim to develop medical instruments and machines to enhance health care services.
