The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to use Aadhaar number to establish the identity of an individual. The students who are Indian nationals, ordinary residents or citizens of India will have to produce the details given on Aadhaar card while filling the NEET Exam 2017 application form. This is a good way to ensure the accuracy of details entered by the candidates. “There are a lot of students who do not provide proper addresses hence Aadhaar is a good mandate for NEET Exam 2017. The move is for the welfare of the applicants as well as the education board,” said T Balakrishna, chairman and managing director, Venkat International Public School & Group of Institutions.
The use of Aadhaar card will also avert the necessity of taking along multiple documents to the examination center to prove one’s identity. This is a welcome change and has been accepted by the medical and dental colleges across the country. Some of the colleges have even declared an off so that those students who do not have Aadhaar card can apply for the same. As Principal, Sri Chaitanya PU College, Mr. Shivaprasad Bodepudi, puts it, “It is an interesting way to go about it. Since JEE main had also started using Aadhaar cards, I think it was important for NEET Exam 2017 to also use it. The good thing about Aadhaar is that it’s just one document that gives us the entire information of the applicant. Although there aren’t many students who do not have Aadhaar, the college management has decided to give a day’s leave to the students who do not have Aadhaar.”
CBSE has set up Aadhaar centres in every city. Students can visit the nearest centre to apply for the Aadhaar enrolment. Mr. T Balakrishna also mentioned about granting leave for those who do not have the Aadhaar card, “We have made arrangements so that the government authorities can come and help students who don’t have Aadhaar cards. We are also flexible to grant leave to students if they are in the process of enrolling for Aadhaar.”
The mandate for producing Aadhaar card details is not applicable for those filling the forms from the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya and Assam.
