It is rightly said, “Forgive others, not because they deserve forgiveness but because you deserve peace”. By forgiving, you do more good to yourself then to the other person as by doing this you let go of the hatred, grudges and anger. This way you let go of all the negative thoughts and energy surrounding you and ring in positivity. Here are more reasons to let go and forgive:
• It improves relationships
• It keeps the blood pressure and heart rate in check.
• It reduces stress and anxiety.
• It lowers the risk of incurring depression
• It promotes overall mental and physical health.
While there are so many benefits attached to this one habit people are still not able to practice it. We still cling on to our grudges and are just not able to let go of things. If you are unable to get over your bitter past even after trying hard then here are a few tips to help you overcome it:
• No Negative Self Talk
If you have decided to let go of the past and embark on a better future then the first thing you need to do is to chuck all the negativity out. Stop any negative self talk and look at the bigger picture. You need to be positive in order to become strong enough to let go of the things that have occurred in the past.
• Recognize Your Fault
You cannot clap with one hand. If a situation has gone from bad to worse you too must have had some part to play in it. It may not be as big as the fault of the other person but there must be something that led to it or may be the way you reacted to the entire situation. Sit in self introspection for some time to recognize your flaws. This way you will know that the entire blame cannot be put on the other person.
• Put yourself in the Other Person’s Shoes
Nobody is completely wrong. Just try to analyse the whole situation from the other person’s perspective and you may be able to understand why he/ she had to take a certain step. Forgiving will become easier this way.
