The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced will be held by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras this year. IIT Madras has been given the responsibility to manage the entire process of conducting this advance level engineering entrance test. The institute will not only set the question paper and conduct the examination but will also update and maintain the official portal for JEE Advanced 2017, release the answer keys, declare result and carry out various other big and small formalities involved.
Joint Entrance Examination is held to shortlist the most deserving candidates and give them the opportunity to study in the best engineering colleges in the country. It is held in two phases – JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Those qualifying in the JEE Advanced get a chance to study in the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology or choose among some of the other top engineering institutes. Each year different institutes are given the responsibility to conduct this tough competitive examination. Last year, that is in the year 2016, it was IIT Guwahati that conducted JEE Advanced. The paper was said to be tougher than that held in the year 2015.
It is being said that JEE may soon cover only Class XII syllabus. The Human Resource Development Ministry is yet to evaluate this proposal and in case it gets a nod from them then it might get incorporated from next year itself.
A proposal to replace the Joint Entrance Exam with National Aptitude Test (NAT) has also been presented however the change is not likely to take place anytime soon.
