- IIT Bombay
This is no doubt one of the most sought after IITs. Around 75% of the top rankers opt for this institute. This is because the institute does not only offer excellent academic programs but also focuses on other aspects for the all round development of its students. It is known for organizing massive college festivals that see participants from around the world.
- IIT Kanpur
IIT Kanpur comes next only to IIT Bombay. Only the top rankers of JEE Advanced get to secure a seat in this institute. It is also a public research institute and thus a number of social and public utility projects are taken up by this institute from time to time. It was set up in the year 1959 with the help of a conglomerate of nine US research universities. The institute was formed as a part of the Kanpur Indo-American Programme (KIAP).
- IIT Kharagpur
IIT Kharagpur is the oldest and the most esteemed engineering institutes. Set up in the year 1951, it sees the highest number of student enrolment. The institute is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. This was initially the Thomas College of Civil Engineering. It was established back in 1847 by the then lieutenant governor, Sir James Thomason. It was converted into IIT in the year 2001. - IIT Hyderabad
It is an engineering and research institute established in the year 2008. It is among the eight young IITs established under the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. The institute has as many as 14 departments offering various courses. It is known for its pool of highly talented and experienced faculty members who are dedicated towards providing quality education to the students.
- IIT Madras
Established in association with the erstwhile West Germany, IIT Madras came into being in the year 1959. It was the third IIT founded under an Act of Parliament to provide education and conduct research in the field of engineering and technology. The institute offers under graduate, post graduate and research programs in 16 disciplines.
