In addition to the MBBS course, the selection of students for postgraduate and diploma programmes at the Goa Medical College (GMC) will also be done on the basis of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) from the year 2017.
A notification about the amendment of policy for admission process to post-graduate degree and diploma courses at the Goa Medical College was issued last month. Until this year, the admission to postgraduate seats at the Goa Medical College was being given on the basis of the marks secured by the students in their MBBS final year.
As per Rule 3 of the amended rules, “The order of merit for admission to post-graduate degree/diploma courses shall be based on state-wise merit secured by the eligible applicants at NEET-PG examination for the concerned academic year.”
So the students will have to go through tough competition to secure seats for post graduate courses too.
Since GMC is a state run college, this year round it got the advantage of the central government ordinance that exempted government medical colleges from giving admissions to MBBS degree courses via National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. However, from year 2017 it will be providing admission to the medical courses through NEET.
