JEE Main 2018: CBSE allows Diabetic Candidates to Carry Eatables, Water to Exam Centers

JEE main 2018It is common knowledge that diabetic people require eating something within short intervals in order to keep their sugar levels intact. Such students often face problem during examinations. This is because they cannot have anything during this time. The stress level of most students is already quite high during the examination and coupled with low sugar levels it can have an adverse effect on their health. There have been cases wherein students have been on the verge of fainting.

In order to avoid such inconvenience for the diabetic students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken the decision to allow them to carry water and some eatables inside the examination hall as they appear for JEE Main 2018. This news has been broadcast by way of JEE Main 2018 information brochure released in November.

However, this does not mean these students can carry any food item inside the examination hall. Some of the eatables that these students can take along include easy-to-have fruits such as oranges and bananas and sugar tablets. “The candidates, suffering from diabetes, are allowed to carry into the examination hall the eatables like sugar tablets / fruits (like banana/apple/ orange) and transparent water bottle. However, the candidates are not allowed to carry packed foods like chocolate/candy/sandwich in the examination hall,” states the information brochure.

The board’s decision has been appreciated by all. This would help the diabetic students concentrate wholly and solely on their exam without worrying about their health. As Dr. Anoop Mishra, Chairman Fortis C- Doc Center of Excellence on Diabetes, Metabolic Diseases and Endocrinology shared, “It (move to allow diabetic students to carry eatables) was very much warranted as those kids who are on insulin may face sudden drop in sugar levels and the absence of any option may severely hamper their concentration and performance in the examination. Not just fruits, they should even allow them to carry cookies.”

Certainly a great move by CBSE!
