
Highlight over National Exit Test 2024
It is expected that the National Exit Test will not be conducted in 2023. According to the latest updates, the government has extended the timeline of the NExT exam from 3 to 4 years as per the NMC act. No official notice has been made in regard to the same but it is expected that the standard exit examination for UG medical students will be held in 2024.
National Exit Test-shift of date from September 2023 to September 2024
The National Exit Test which was previously supposed to be implemented in September 2023 has now been postponed. According to the latest updates the government has planned to extend the time limit of the NExT exam to September 2024. No official word has been released on the account of the extension of the NExT exam from September 2023 to September 2024. But it is being assumed that the final year exit examination for all the MBBS students will not be conducted in September 2023.

In accordance with the NMC act 2020, the commission will be conducting a common exit examination for all final-year MBBS students. This act was brought into force in 2020. According to this, the National Exit Test will be conducted in the coming year, i.e, 2023.
As per the recent news by the Union Health Ministry Gazette, the required regulations for implementing the National Exit Test are not in place yet. However, the establishment of the examination center has not been decided till now.

Furthermore, no particular timeline has been given yet but the examination has been postponed till September 2024.
The notice released states that “even after passing almost two years, regulations in the matter are yet to be framed, and also the constitution of the examination cell is under process”. It further said that “Now, therefore, in the exercise of the powers conferred by Section 59 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, the Central Government hereby makes the following order, to remove the said difficulties”.

As per the first order of the National Medical Commission 2022, the conduct of the common NExT exam has now been substituted from 3 years to 4 years.
It has also been proposed by the NMC that the National Exit Test might replace the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test, NEET PG for admission in various postgraduate exams. As per the proposals, the NExT exam is expected to replace both the final year MBBS and the entrance examination for various PG courses.
The NEET PG examination is conducted in the month of April/May each year and the NXeT exam will be conducted in the same time period as well. However, the dates of the NEET PG 2023 have already been announced by the National Board of Examination. The NEET PG examination will be conducted on 5th March 2023.

This commission has to say that the preparation for the conduct of such exams takes time. The syllabus type, exam pattern (analytical or MCQ-based), number of tests, and so on are some of the key tasks that the commission has to undertake. Not just the preparation for the examination but also the setting of the rules and regulations of the examinations will also demand ample time.

The officials further shared that the modifications in the provisions have already begun.
Not just the NEET PG examination the NExT will also be replacing the FMG which is written by foreign Medical graduates. As a single examination, this exam will be used as a smooth medical education in the country.
